It revolves around a boy by the name Dean Grieber in high school at the age of sixteen years living in Monument, Colorado in 2024.Main cities along the east coast experience mega tsunami creating weather phenomenon that causes havoc on monument due to major hailstorms. As Dean and his brother Alex are going to school, hailstorm causes the two buses they are riding on to crash into each other. Luckily Mrs. Everyone is almost killed on the bus, Dean and some other teenagers who survived seek refuge in a Greenway store. Greenway is a store which Mrs. Wooly crashes the bus into so as to take the children inside safely away from the hailstorm. It also serves as a department store in the monument used as a shelter and finds supplies by the driver and the children after the crash. There is a Pizza Shack inside the greenway where children spend most of the time. With the knowledge of operating ovens, Astrid uses the Pizza Shack to feed the children. During earthquakes and other disastrous events, children use the tables at the place to shelter. Monument Colorado acts the primary setting of the novel as it is perceived to be a safe place to raise a family and live. The arrival of hailstorms does not favor this perception at all.Very engagingThe unfolding of events in the book creates an excellent suspense to the reader eager to know what next and how did it happen. I can follow each characters behavior from the beginning of the book. The situation in the book is so tense, and I could wonder what would happen so I could keep opening the next page. Look at the dramas by the characters inside and outside the superstore. The chemical scene between Niko, Sahalia, and Alex is the craziest (pages 8-9). The ending is still hanging since nothing is fixed and I would want to read what would happen next. Niko is my favorite character in the book. He is la genius despite being a young girl at the age of eight. He always was a plan of action to every situation.LessonsThe novel gives women strength to do what men can do. For example, we see Mrs. Wooly rescue children from the burning bus by breaking the emergency door (chapter one page 2). After the accident, it is apprehended that the school board has not put in place emergency measures in case of an accident. There should be plans to deal with emergencies like accidents.
